Conditions of Entry
Library guidelines reflect values of inclusion and are guided by the Queensland Human Rights Act 2019. Visitors must respect the safety, rights, and interests of others. Those behaving inappropriately may be asked to leave. Staff are authorised to assess and respond to inappropriate conduct.
Library Etiquette and Use
To ensure a comfortable and respectful environment for all visitors, we kindly ask that food or beverages with strong odours not be consumed within the library. Appropriate hygiene and attire, including the wearing of shoes, must be maintained at all times. We ask that personal items be kept with you and arranged so as not to cause an obstruction or inconvenience to others.
Children in the Library
Western Downs Libraries actively encourages children and young people to use and enjoy the library. At all times, responsibility for the welfare and behaviour of children rests with their parent or guardian. If a child under the age of 12 is found to be unattended, the library may take action to resolve this situation.
Computer Use
Patrons accessing public computers are expected to abide by the Library Guidelines and the Library reserves the right to terminate Internet and/or Computer access privileges of any person abusing these Terms. Parents / legal guardians are responsible for monitoring access to the internet for children under the age of 18.
Borrowing Privileges
A library card or valid ID is required to borrow items. Privileges may be suspended for long overdue items or unpaid fees (including for lost or damaged materials).
Censorship of Collection Materials
Library users have the right to make decisions for themselves and their children; however, this right does not extend to other library users. The library values diverse materials and will not reject items based on moral, political, racial, or religious grounds if they meet selection criteria.
Western Downs Libraries are inclusive spaces where everyone belongs. Let’s work together to protect and enjoy this shared community resource. For full policies or more information, please speak to a staff member or visit: www.westerndownslibraries.com.
